# Screen recording for product and design teams

Product work is full of things that are hard to put into words: why a flow feels wrong, how a new feature is meant to be used, or what changed in this week's build. A short screen recording with your face and voice carries that context far better than a document or a long message, and it lets people catch up without another meeting on the calendar.

## Explain a new feature

When something ships, record a two-minute tour of it for your sales, support and success teams. They see exactly how it works and why it matters, and they can share the same link with customers who ask about it. Because each video has its own link, it's easy to drop into release notes, a help article or a changelog.

## Give design feedback people can act on

Written feedback on a design often loses the nuance of what you meant. Recording yourself clicking through a prototype, pausing on the parts that confuse you and suggesting alternatives, gives designers feedback they can act on straight away. It also feels more collaborative, because they can hear the tone behind the comments.

## Replace the weekly status meeting

A five-minute video update recorded on Friday afternoon can replace a thirty-minute meeting on Monday morning. Walk through what shipped, what's blocked and what's next, and share the link in your team channel. People watch when it suits them, and you get an email the first time each of them opens it.

## How it works

1. **Click the Seedling icon in Chrome** and choose to record the current tab, your whole screen or just your camera.
2. **Talk it through**, with your camera in a small round bubble you can drag anywhere.
3. **Stop and share the link.** If you'd like to tidy it up first, click the parts you want removed on the timeline and save.

## A focused, affordable Loom alternative

Seedling covers recording, trimming and sharing, which is what most product and design teams use a video tool for. It costs $8 a month or $79 a year per person, compared with $18 to $24 per person per month for Loom's paid plans (as listed on [loom.com/pricing](https://www.loom.com/pricing) on 13 October 2026). There's a full comparison, including what Seedling doesn't do, on the [Loom alternative](https://sendseedling.com/loom-alternative) page.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I record a Figma prototype or a staging site?

Yes. Anything you can open in a Chrome tab can be recorded, and you can switch to recording your whole screen for desktop apps.

### Can I edit a video after recording it?

Yes. You can cut out any part of the video by clicking the timeline and dragging the handles over the section you want gone. When you save, everyone with the link sees the edited version, and the link itself stays the same.

### Is there a limit on video length?

There's no fixed limit on recording length. Most product videos work best when they're under five minutes, though.
