SEEDLING

Loom vs Zight: screen recording plus screenshots, or video first?

Zight, which was called CloudApp until 2023, and Loom both record your screen and camera and give you a link to share. The main difference is scope. Zight is a visual communication toolkit that handles screenshots, annotated images, GIFs and video in one app, while Loom concentrates on video messages and the team features around them. If your day involves a mix of quick screenshots and short recordings, Zight can replace two tools, and if it's mostly video, Loom's video features are deeper.

This page compares the two on the prices and limits each company lists today, and also covers a simpler option if you only need the recording part.

Where Zight is stronger

Zight's biggest advantage is that it does more than video. The same app takes full-page and scrolling screenshots, lets you annotate them with arrows, shapes and text, makes short GIFs, and gives you a link for each one. Paid plans add blur and redaction for sensitive information, cropping and merging videos, and a desktop app for Windows and Mac alongside the Chrome extension and an iOS app.

Zight also leans into turning recordings into documents. Its AI Smart Actions can write a step-by-step guide or summary from a recording, and Video Requests let you send a link to a customer so they can record their screen for you without installing anything, which is useful in support. The higher plans add integrations with Zendesk, Intercom and Salesforce Service Cloud.

On price, Zight's team plan is cheaper than Loom Business, at $12 per person per month on yearly billing compared with roughly $15 for Loom.

Where Loom is stronger

Loom has the more complete set of features for watching and discussing video as a team. Even the free plan includes transcripts in more than 50 languages, captions, comments, emoji reactions and viewer insights, whereas Zight's free plan has no transcription. Loom Business adds unlimited recording, 4K video, password protection and custom branding, and Business + AI adds automatic titles, summaries, chapters and filler-word removal.

Loom has apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, integrates with Slack, Jira, Confluence, GitHub and Gmail on every plan, and has been part of Atlassian since 2023, which makes it a natural fit for teams already using Jira and Confluence. Its free plan also allows up to 50 members in a workspace, compared with a single user on Zight's free plan.

A simpler option if you mainly record and share

Seedling only does video, and it does the basic job quickly. You record a browser tab, a window, your whole screen or just your camera from the Chrome extension, your camera sits in a bubble you can move, and the share link opens as soon as you stop. You can cut out mistakes afterwards, you get an email the first time each new person watches, and your viewers don't need an account.

Seedling has no recording-length limit, no storage cap to manage and one low price per person.

What a team pays per year

These figures use each plan's yearly price. Loom's yearly price assumes the full 17% discount.

Team size Zight Collaborate Loom Business (approx.) Seedling
1 person $144 $180 $79
5 people $720 $900 $395
10 people $1,440 $1,800 $790

A single person who only needs Zight's individual Create plan would pay about $119 a year.
